Remus was unfamiliar with the Lockport Cave system, something he wasn't accustomed to during his hunts, but something he would have to deal with all the same. What he did know of the cave system was that it was man made cave beneath the city of Lockport, New York and that a sewer system may or may not merge with it. Normally he would have scouted out the caverns before hunting, but desperate times called for desperate measures and a cyclopes roaming about New York was not something that could be ignored.
He'd first spotted the cyclopes when he arrived in Buffalo and found it peculiar that such a monster would try to blend into a crowd of everyday citizens, even with the Mist aiding it. True to his character, Remus played it cool and followed the monster from a distance, walking around for a little over two hours before it turned into an alley. He made an attempt to confront it, Helena in hand, of course, but his fearsome reputation must have proceeded him because the cyclopes began to flee. Before it escaped into an open manhole, only to disappear into the sewer system, Remus had been able to fire several crossbow bolts at it and had managed to hobble it. Unfortunately, it had managed to allude him once he gave chase through the sewers and it had escaped through another manhole.
After a week of tracking, he'd managed to hear the strange whispers of concerned citizens regarding a large man with eyes too close together and Remus, the expert hunter that he was, put two and two together. Making light conversation and flirtatious advances, he'd not only succeeded in bedding one of the woman but was also one step closer to completing his hunt. Arriving in Lockport, he'd scouted out the city itself before coming across more strange whispers of the same man and further investigation led him to Lockport Cave.
After a little more than an hour of searching through the caves, he'd succeeded in finding undeniable markings of the cyclopes and he was currently proceeding with caution as he did not want to be taken by surprise. Helena was still strapped to his back, the repeater crossbow already loaded with enough bolts to take down a creature of such size, but his bastard sword was in hand. Normally he preferred to leave all the bloody work to Helena, but he knew that if the opportunity presented itself for him to skewer the monster it would be easier than having to give chase and track it all over again.
The sound of something scrapping against rock met his ears and he slowed his pace, bastard sword at the ready for a strike. Holding his breath, he strained his ears further for any other sound and found himself wishing that he had echo location like a bat. When he heard no other noise, he again proceeded with caution, his body positioned in a crouch and his blade angled upward.
"Come out, come out wherever you are," he muttered to himself, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.Tags: Wendy Griffin | Word Count: 521 words| Notes: I hope this satisfactory.
