Heather sat outside the Hephaestus cabin, with a small screwdriver and an animatronic kitten. A few small screws were scattered around her on the ground, rolling slightly. She picked them up and screwed each one back tightly in their place, and set the kitten down on the ground. Its once-white fur was now grey with dirt and grime, and it did not run as smoothly as it once had, but still Heather kept it, replacing parts as needed. It was her reminder of home, her security blanket. She flipped the switch on its underbelly, and it walked along the ground, turning its head to look up at her. "There we go... feels much better with those new batteries and an oiled hip, doesn't it?" The kitten meowed as Heather nuzzled its nose, as if in agreement. Sighing, she flipped the switch back off and stashed it in her messenger bag. The kitten made her think of a simpler time, before she had needed to come to Camp Halfblood. Back with her mother and stepfather, winning robotics competitions and making them proud. The thoughts of home darkened her usually sunny countenance, her bright smile replaced by a wistful frown. Heather forced herself to stop thinking of her life at home. She was never going to be able to go back, and thinking about it just made her depressed. She stood up and brushed the dust off her jeans, slinging her messenger bag onto her shoulder. She needed to find one of her friends, so that she wouldn't have time to think sad thoughts. She started walking, staring up at the blue sky. Not focusing on the space in front of her, she knocked into someone, accidentally pushing them to the ground.
"I'm so sorry! she said, as she offered a hand to help them up. Her cheeks flushed a bright red, and she laughed, embarassed. "I wasn't paying any attention to where I was going."
