Moments could feel like hours. And no, Rae was NOT nervous. She just kept chewing off bits of her lit cigarette, because … well, because! What was it to her, really, the news that cheery-cheery girl – what's her name? Ah, Rae seldom bothered with names of people she thought beneath her. She was calling her Bouncy most of the time – had delivered, so freakingly excited she had resembled a large super ball. “That newest kid, the light brunette one, guess what, she's been claimed! The same way you were! Gods, we didn't expect that at ALL. Raven, you have a SISTER. We're gonna fetch her, oh you two NEED to meet! Just a moment!“
A sister. Huh. Yeah, Raven hadn't expected that at all. After all, by what she knew of her conceivement, her mother hadn't been the mothering type at all. Or she had just hated Rae's father's guts and had regretted the mistake of spending even just one night with him. That would be typical. And judging from how fast this girl had been claimed compared to Rae, the feeling might descend to the daughter. Would not be anything new, really. Everyone hated Raven. Better make sure the tradition was continued with her half-sister.
Why on earth everyone thought that Rae and this other girl would have to be shoved together and play happy family was beyond her. Was she even anything like the girls she had grown up with? Viper with her poison blade, Nash with her grip so strong it resembled that of a grown man … well, she was, like Rae, a daughter of night. That ought to count for something, right?
Definitely not nervous. The pacing thing was something she did... daily. Yeah right. Who was she kidding. She just wished they would finally come back so she could snap out of this peculiar feeling of anticipation. It was nothing to her. Really nothing. Rae Delancey didn't have siblings and she didn't need them. She was good enough on her own. Though, judging by how excited Bouncy had been, the camp would not allow that. She might be in for some ordeals yet.
There! The sound of footsteps, excited voice through the door. And then the door opened, with Bouncy's excited voice carrying miles ahead. „There she is, Rae, come on, show yourself!“
Reluctantly, Raven stepped forward, her face set into her usual frown, her black-lined eyes a little wider though than usual. Dressed in black, part of a raven tattoo visible on the side of her neck, cigarette still in the corner of her mouth. Wide stance, hands partially in her pockets. Typical Raven Delancey. Though what she saw, what they tried to make her believe was her sister, was not expected at all.
