Sitting at the top of the climbing wall, Clara watched some of her fellow campers feeling like the Queen of the castle. Which she was in a way. Campers at Camp Half Blood took simple games like Capture the Flag or Tag to an extreme level. It was just a thing that came with being a demigod. So it was to no one's surprise that a simple game of King of the Hill was twisted to a game where one misstep could spell death. The goal of the game was to reach the top of the climbing wall and fight to keep your position as the "king" for as long as possible. At the top of the climbing wall, next to where Clara was sitting, was an old fashion clock counting the minutes that Clara had been declared "king". Glancing uninterestedly at the clock she dully noted that had been undisputed king for seven minutes straight. Maybe this time around she could beat her old record?
King of the Hill was unofficially Clara's game. She held the record as the longest king the camp has ever seen and Clara made a point of reminding everyone of this fact before every game started. Who would ever guess a harmless looking daughter of Demeter was that good at this game? Most of the new campers were usually the only ones willing to challenge her and particularly stubborn souls. Not that she was one to complain. After all, competition was Clara's favourite past time and turning down a challenge just went right against her nature.
Throwing her legs over the side of the wall, careful to avoid a row of spikes, Clara titled her head back and gazed at the sky. She estimated that she didn't need to worry about any camper getting remotely close to the top for another four minutes. Until then she could take a moment to herself.
As with every new summer, there was a sudden influx of new campers. Watching all the new wide eyed children stumbling into camp always made some maternal instinct claw at Clara's heart strings. It was only her side of caution and reason that strayed her hand from extending a hand of friendship in the new campers' direction. That didn't stop her from discreetly pushing some of her fellow campers in their direction. Just some gentle manipulation on Clara's end had some of the kids under her care scrambling to become the unofficial welcoming committee to the new campers. she usually rewarded the kids with one of her rare grins and a word of praise. Clara, on the other hand, kept her distance with a cool, aloof air she usually kept with a promise to step in if she was needed. Thankfully she had yet to have to step in for one of the new campers. Bullying was the most prominent danger aside from hungry monster, but Clara rarely put her neck out for someone that was directly under her care. She usual watched from a distance and sent word to the head of the other cabins if she saw instances of bullying.
At that moment, Clara's internal monologue was interrupted by a hand grasping her foot. Jolting in surprise, she instinctively began to struggle and try and retract her feet back over the top of the climbing wall. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked down to see a maliciously grinning demigod with a tight grip on her ankle. The two stared at each other for a moment before the demigod gave a mighty pull and Clara slipped off the side of the climbing wall. Her heart seemed to stop beating as she scrambled to try and get a grip on the climbing wall once again. Her efforts proved futile as Clara suddenly found herself completely losing her grip and falling through the air. A panicked scream escaped her throat as her limbs flailed wildly to try and catch herself on the climbing wall. Moments before she hit the ground, Clara closed her eyes and braced herself for the incoming pain.
